FCC Lays Out Requirement For Booster Equipments

Poorly designed cell phone booster systems have created issues for consumers and carriers like wide. A poorly designed system is the one that does not take the necessary filters into consideration. Amplifiers are basically enhancing the signal in a particular band width and broadcasting that enhanced signal. A bad design is something that does not adhere to a specific bandwidth. When this happens the signal on other instruments can go out of whack and created more problems then solving the initial problem. The cell phone booster market does have some manufacturers that manufacture booster systems without fully understand this concept. Some problems that the FCC has addressed in its announcement :

a) Near-Far Problem
It is one of the major problem that arises when the intended carriers signal tower is farther then another carrier. Instead of amplifying the signal of the week signal carrier the poorly designed amplifier can amplify the carrier not required to boost the signal for and their by interrupting with the cell phone carrier that has significant signal already. To illustrate this more clearly, say for example carrier A is the carrier you want to boost the signal for and carrier B is the one that require not boosting. A broadband signal booster would boost signal for both carrier A and B, their by creating an interference on the carrier B.

Solution:
One method is to make sure the booster adheres to a strict band pass filters.
Another solution is to make sure the donor antenna targets a particular cell tower and not all surrounding towers. A well designed Yagi antenna does this action well and avoids interference issues associated.

b) Oscillation
Now, oscillation is an issue that arises when the donor antenna the (external antenna) and the receiver antenna (internal antenna) are too close to each other physically that the signal from each other is too strong that they start talking to each other. Instead of communication with the cell tower and the user’s cell phone. This can also create problems with public safety wireless services such as emergency services.

c) Base Station Overload
Most carriers have a controlled power adjustment on the cell tower to make sure the cell phones are not over loaded and at the same time does not drain the battery of the cell phones.

In all the fact is that a poorly conceived booster system can be a trouble , but manufactures like Wilson Electronics, Cell phone mate and Wi-Ex to name a few have made sure their booster systems adhere to the FCC regulations and incorporate the recommended safety features to keep the carrier and the cell phone user happy!
